What to expect
Your roof install, day by day.
A start-to-finish walk-through of a residential reroof in Baldwin or Mobile County — so nothing on install day catches you off guard.
- Owner on site
- 1–3 day asphalt
- 3–5 day metal
- Magnet sweep × 3
The timeline
Five days, give or take.
Most asphalt reroofs collapse to 1 or 2 days. Metal jobs run 3 to 5. The sequence below is the same on every roof — only the speed changes.
- 0Day 0
Pre-job prep
The day before your install, two things show up: the materials and the dumpster. We coordinate the material delivery to land in your driveway 24 to 48 hours before the crew arrives. Where pitch allows, the truck conveyor roof-loads bundles directly. The dumpster gets placed on plywood near the driveway in a spot we agree on in advance.
- Materials delivered + staged
- Dumpster dropped on plywood
- Driveway protected, plant beds tarped
- Owner confirms start time with you
- 1Day 1
Tear-off & deck inspection
Crew rolls in around 7 a.m. Protection goes up first: tarps on flower beds, plywood on AC condensers, plant covers, drop cloths over the pool and patio furniture. Then the tear-off — every shingle, every nail, and the existing underlayment come off, down to bare wood deck. Loudest part of the job. We walk the deck, photograph any soft or rotten boards, replace them, and show you the photos.
- Property protection installed
- Full tear-off to wood deck
- Deck inspection + replacement of soft boards
- Photos shared with you in real time
- 2Day 2
Underlayment + starter + field shingles
With a clean, sound deck, we lay the water barrier. Ice-and-water shield at eaves (6 feet up), valleys, around penetrations, and against wall flashing. Synthetic underlayment across the field. Then drip edge around the perimeter, starter strip along eaves and rakes, and the first courses of field shingles. On a single-day job, days 1 and 2 collapse into one — same sequence, faster.
- Ice-and-water in high-risk zones
- Synthetic underlayment across the field
- Drip edge + starter strip installed
- Field shingles begin (6-nail high-wind pattern)
- 3Day 3
Penetrations, ridge, final details
New pipe boots on every vent. New flashing on chimneys, skylights, and sidewalls. Ridge vent installed continuously along the peak. Ridge cap shingles bent and installed over the vent to seal it up. Metal panels seamed if it's a metal job. This is the day the roof starts to look finished.
- All pipe boots replaced
- Flashing replaced at chimneys, skylights, walls
- Ridge vent + ridge cap installed
- Final shingle / metal panel courses installed
- 4Day 4
Cleanup + final walk-through
Debris into the dumpster. Tarps off the flower beds. Plywood off the condensers. We run a heavy-duty rolling magnet around the entire perimeter — three or four passes — to pick up stray nails. Then an owner walks the job with you. We point out what was replaced, show you the deck photos, and hand you the warranty packet (paper and digital).
- Debris hauled, dumpster removed
- Magnet sweep × 3 (perimeter + driveway)
- Final walk-through with an owner
- Warranty packet handed over
For homeowners
What you need to do.
Move cars 30 feet from the house
Nails happen during tear-off. Better safe than a flat tire.
Kennel or back-room your pets
The noise stresses them out. A friend's house for the day is even better.
Stay out of the attic
Falling nails and debris in the attic are a hazard during tear-off.
Plan for noise from 7a–5p
Working from home is fine; expect background banging through the workday.
What we bring
On every job, every time.
Dumpster
Sized to the roof. Plywood underneath to protect concrete and pavers.
Property protection
Tarps on beds, plywood on AC + pools, plant covers, drop cloths.
Materials, staged
Shingles, underlayment, drip edge, ridge — delivered before crew arrives.
Safety gear
Harnesses, anchor points, hard hats. We don't cut corners on safety.
Documentation tools
Cameras and drone for before/during/after photo record.
Magnet sweep
Rolling magnet for nail cleanup. Three passes, every job.
Permits & inspections
The paperwork side.
Roof permits are required in most Baldwin and Mobile County municipalities . We pull the permit, post it visibly during the install, and coordinate the final inspection with the municipality. Permit cost is itemized on the proposal — never a surprise.
For new-construction installs, the GC usually holds the permit and we coordinate the roofing inspection inside their schedule. We work to the architectural plan and the IRC 2018 code with applicable Alabama amendments .
Weather window
Watching the radar so you don't have to.
We track the forecast for the three days leading up to your start date. If a thunderstorm cell looks likely to land mid-tear-off, we reschedule the install or shift the start time. The worst-case scenario is a deck exposed during a Gulf Coast downpour, and we don't put homeowners in that position.
If weather rolls in once we're underway, we tarp the deck before we leave. Heavy poly tarp, properly weighted, with attic ventilation maintained. The roof holds through a squall and we finish the install the next clear day. You won't get water inside.
Common questions
Installation FAQs
- Most asphalt residential reroofs wrap in 1–3 days. Metal jobs run longer — typically 3–5 days. Pitch, complexity, and weather all factor in. We give you a written timeline with your quote.
- Yes. The home is safe to occupy. It's loud — about 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. of background banging — so working from home is doable but not relaxing. Pets are usually happier elsewhere for the day.

- Yes, where required by the municipality. We pull the permit, post it on the job, and coordinate the final inspection. Permit cost is itemized on the proposal — no hidden line items.
